Ice Cream and Family History

By Patrick Saylor
Director, Marketing Communication

On Sunday, October 30, share your family's stories of the past and enjoy ice cream on us at the Museum of the Confederacy - Appomattox. From noon to 4 p.m., "Rediscovering Your Stories" will highlight the work of current researchers who are working to better understand the experience of people who lived in and around central Virginia during the Civil War, and how those communities today are impacted by the war and its legacies.

Visitors are encouraged to:

19th Century Cabin Grand Opening!

The Grand Opening of our 19th Century cabin is almost here!  We are eager to see Phase II of the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox start with such an exciting event on October 17th.  With this cabin, we can more easily accomplish our expanded mission by showcasing the civilian life during the American Civil War, both to school children and to our visitors.

It has been exciting to watch the dismantling and moving of the Joel Carnefix cabin and the reconstruction on our grounds over the past 6 months. (See the pictures below for some views of the process)
