Pamunkey men served the Union as pilots and scouts on gun-boats & Pamunkey women aided Union soldiers who encamped near their community throughout the War. Through the voices of Pamunkey men and women recorded in 1871, and related by Ashley Atkins Spivey, Director of the Pamunkey Indian Museum, the story of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe and the Civil War comes to life.
