Civil War Conversation- Sectionalism and Secession: The West Virginia Statehood Movement

In 1861, as Virginia deliberated whether or not to secede from the Union, the state’s northwestern counties began debating whether or not to secede from Virginia. Explore the political, economic, and social forces behind western Virginia's secession and eventual admission into the Union as America's thirty-fifth state. Led by Kevin Barksdale, Marshall University.
