What it means to be American and the issues surrounding membership, identity, belonging, and exclusion continue to occupy and divide us today. How have the concept of citizenship and the rights of citizens evolved?  Discover the impact that the American Civil War had on the citizenship of individuals—from those formerly enslaved to Confederate leaders.  

Amanda Frost is a professor of law at American University, and she writes and teaches in the fields of constitutional, immigration, and citizenship law. In addition to law journals, her writing has been published in Slate, the American Prospect, the National Law Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and she authors a column for SCOTUS blog.
