Book Talk with Caroline E. Janney–Ends of War
September 28, 2021 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Free Web Program
Lee’s surrender was less of an ending than the start of an interregnum marked by military and political uncertainty, legal and logistical confusion, and continued outbursts of violence. Through the deliberations of government and military authorities to the ground-level experiences of common soldiers, discover the uncertain days after Appomattox.
Caroline E. Janney is the John L. Nau III Professor in the History of the American Civil War and Director of the John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia.
After monitoring cases and much consideration that the American Civil War Museum decided to turn the Book Talk with Caroline Janney into a web program instead of an in-person event to ensure the health and safety of our community.
