History Explorer Day: From Slavery to Freedom

Tickets to this event are included with museum admission to ACWM-Appomattox on March 11, 2023.

Learn about slavery in the mid-19th century United States by interacting with reproduction artifacts to uncover the stories of real people and listening to Frederick Douglass speak about his experiences with slavery through historical interpreter Nathan Richardson.

Discover ways enslaved people gained their freedom by putting together a Pathways to Freedom booklet, and see how their lives changed, or didn’t, following emancipation by exploring our Enacting Freedom gallery.

Historical interpreter Nathan Richardson will be onsite to portray Frederick Douglass and will deliver a formal presentation “Frederick Douglass Speaks on Democracy” from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
