History Happy Hour: Freedom’s Lawmakers

February 22 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Join us as we discuss how African American men in government following the Civil War shaped the public education system in the South.

Following the Civil War, Black men served in every level of government—federal state, and local.  Though oppressive Jim Crow policies rolled back many of the gains made during Reconstruction, the actions of these African Americans helped shape a lasting system of public education in the southern United States and inspire generations to follow in their footsteps.
