Civil War 101 Teachers Institute

This three-day institute will examine the compromises and controversies leading up to the American Civil War; provide an overview of the war itself and its effect on the homefront; delve into the challenges wartime presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis faced; and explore the outcomes of the Civil War, providing a framework for understanding Reconstruction and the legacies of the war.

Elementary, middle, and high school educators, who are seeking to improve their knowledge of the American Civil War are invited to apply. The Museum seeks participants from a diversity of grade levels and school settings with a wide range of personal and professional interests. Preference will be given to those who are new to teaching the Civil War. Teachers who complete the Institute will receive a certificate for 20 hours.
To apply use our online application form. Selection of applicants will occur on April 15 but registration will remain open until the Institute is filled (space is limited to 20 teachers). Approved applicants will be notified and billed for the registration fee ($75 for non-members, $60 for members).
