About the Artisans: Soapstone is mined in Kisii county in southwestern Kenya. We work with three different artisan groups in and around Nairobi who carve, polish and paint the stone to create beautiful pieces. The Undugu Society provides outreach, support and education to at-risk children living in Kenya’s slums. The society’s artisan program seeks to halt cycles of poverty by providing employment options for parents. The sale of these beautiful handcrafted reindeer Christmas ornaments encourages a brotherhood of Kenyans in supporting one another’s rise from poverty.
