Step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of the Civil War with our summer reenactment event, Cannons & Campfires: A Civil War Summer Showcase, hosted by the American Civil War Museum-Appomattox. Join us on July 28th from noon – 5:00pm and 29th from 10:00am – 5:00pm for a weekend of thrilling reenactments, interactive exhibits, and educational activities.
Immerse yourself in the world of the Civil War as you witness our fields come to life with the thundering roar of cannons, the crack of musket fire, and the presence of reenactors from all over Virginia. Allow our skilled staff of living historians to transport you back in time with authentic uniforms and weapons, and bring the past to life before your eyes. Check out our cabin for hearth cooking and games for children!
This event, which is included in museum admission, will also feature interactive exhibits and educational activities for visitors. Learn about the daily life of soldiers on both sides of the conflict, engage with the history of the Civil War from a first-person perspective, and discover the impact of this pivotal moment in American history.

Schedule & Activities
Friday @ 12:00pm – the 24th VA, 11th VA, and 99 NY arrive and set up camp, drill, do musket firing demonstration
Cannon Fire at 1:00pm & 3:00pm
Saturday @ 10:00am – Reenactors drill, demo, skirmish
Cannon Fire at 11:00am, 1:00pm, & 3:00pm
- The cabin will be open for hearth cooking and will have games/activities for kids
- Banjo players live performance
- Vendors: Jewelry, Soap, Quilting
- Food: Shaved ice, ice cream sandwiches, and cookies for sale on the pavilion
