The American Civil War Museum is holding an Essay Contest for Virginia students in grades 3 – 12!
The overall theme is A New Birth of Freedom subcategories are: Grades 9-12; Grades 6-8; Grades 3-5
Specific prompts and parameters according to learning levels are established. The winning essays will be determined by a panel of judges that includes American Civil War Museum education staff and the Teacher Advisory Council.
Awards
○ 1st Place – $100 and a Family Membership to the American Civil War Museum
○ 2nd Place – $50 and four tickets for admission to the American Civil War Museum
○ 3rd Place – Four tickets for admission to the American Civil War Museum
○ Certificates for all participants
Essays will be considered by a panel of judges that includes educators at the American Civil War Museum and the Teacher Advisory Council. All submissions are due November 2, 2026.
