Student/Youth Group Tours

During field trips at ACWM, students become historians, exploring primary source documents and artifacts to delve deeply into the human stories of the Civil War. Using historical and critical thinking skills, students investigate peoples’ lives, the impact of war, and how echoes from the past surround us. All of our student programming aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning and Common Core.

ACWM Offers Free Admission to Virginia Public School Teachers and Students

Made possible by generous funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia in support of history education, the Museum is pleased to provide Virginia public school teachers and students (K-12) the opportunity for continued learning about the American Civil War. Transportation scholarships for any Virginia Title 1 school are also available through the Commonwealth’s support.

Students can attend at no charge even when not on a school-organized field trip and only need to verbally provide staff their current grade and school district, but do not need to provide further documentation. Virginia public school classroom teachers may also attend outside field trips at no charge and only need to provide their professional credentials at the ACWM Visitor’s desk for complimentary tickets.
