Have museum educators come to YOUR classroom and lead your students through programs that challenge them to broaden their understanding of the causes, course, and consequences of the American Civil War. We offer the following programs at your school:
Enacting Freedom Mobile Exhibit
Bring the American Civil War Museum to your school with our new mobile exhibit Enacting Freedom! Explore Black Virginians’ fight for freedom through this mobile exhibit that includes eight double-sided panels, three activities for students, and a supplemental materials packet for teachers. Artifact Investigation
What can objects tell us about the past? Using artifact reproductions and primary source documents, this hands-on program invites students to use their imagination and critical thinking skills to investigate the past. Through objects, students will explore the experiences of different historical figures.
Length: 30 minutes

Medicine in the Civil War
Why did more soldiers die from disease than in battle? This engaging and interactive program explores how the Civil War changed medical practices. Students will learn about the critical advancements made by doctors and nurses during the war as well as the diseases that caused the high death toll.
