Join us for our ACWM Fall Festival!


We hope you’ll join us at the ACWM Fall Festival in Appomattox. Enjoy the day with activities for children and adults alike!

Have your photo taken in Civil War period dress, try your hand at horseshoes or cornhole, see local artisans demonstrating their work, grab some lunch, enjoy some pumpkin painting, & so much more!

Inside the Museum, visitors can attend programs, and see some incredible artifacts & exhibits. We hope to see you there!

Event Schedule (10AM-4PM)

11:00 am—Dr. John Terrell: Civil War Doctor to Man and Horse (Dr. Charles Driscoll)

Discover the story of Dr. John J. Terrell who, using medical innovations far ahead of the generally-accepted practices of his time, saved countless men’s and horses’ lives during the Civil War.

12:00 pm—Children’s Halloween Costume Parade: Children 8 and under are invited to show off their Halloween costumes.  Whether they be silly or scary, sassy or sophisticated, there will be prizes for all.

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm— Farm Use String Band: Farm Use String Band plays their own high energy style of Old Time Music, staying true to the roots of Traditional tunes heard for hundreds of years in living rooms & on back porches. Foot-stompin’, good old-fashioned fun!

2:00 pm—Death and Mourning in the 19th Century  (Kelly Hancock)

Find out how Americans sought to hold on to the ideal of the “good death” in the midst of a conflict that took the lives of over 600,000 soldiers. Discover how funeral and mourning practices changed as a result of the war.
