May 11, 2023 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Everyone is familiar with Robert E. Lee’s decision to resign from the U.S. Army because he did not want to draw his sword against Virginia, but fewer people are aware of the men who made the opposite choice. Discover the stories of over 20 native Virginians, who rose to prominence during the Civil War fighting to preserve the Union.

A graduate of the York College of Pennsylvania with a BS in Criminal Justice, Kevin Shroyer worked for the Lynchburg, VA Police Department from 1982 until 1998 when he left to join the Lynchburg Public Defender Office to serve as their Investigator, a position he held for 23 years. Kevin now serves on the Campus Safety and Security team at the University of Lynchburg.
Being born and raised a short distance from Gettysburg, PA, and into a family with a rich Civil War History (he has ancestors who fought on both sides), Kevin was naturally exposed to the Civil War at an early age and has led to a life filled with visits to Civil War battlefields and museums and has attended numerous Civil War seminars and conferences. He is a voracious reader of anything pertaining to the Civil War era.
Presently, Kevin is the President of the Lynchburg Civil War RoundTable and currently serves as the President with the 11th Virginia VolunteerInfantry Co. G “Lynchburg Home Guard”, a local reenacting unit dedicated to portraying the role of the Lynchburg men who served in the Confederate army during the Civil War.
Passionate about running, Kevin also served as Race Director for the Point of Honor 5K for many years, an annual April race dedicated to his late daughter’s memory that supports organ donation education and awareness with the race proceeds dedicated to that worthy cause.
